In a world saturated with politics, allow us to give you a fresh, and informative, new approach to the “Left” and the “Right”. Here at AppWood, the words “left” and “right” have no political meaning. Instead, they describe the door handing of the custom doors we make in our shop! Handing of the doors refers to the direction which the doors swing and is critical knowledge when building a new door. Use this diagram the next time you need to determine the handing of your doors.”
Door Handing Guide
While the diagram looks simple, it is often referenced in different ways by different builders so we make sure our clients clearly approve the swing of each door. Referring to “In-swing” or “Out-swing” can be confusing because that is dependent on which way you face the door or approach the door. So to be more specific we refer to “Left Hand” or “Right Hand” which describes which hand you would naturally use to open the given door. If the door is intended to be pulled open then we add the term “Reverse” or “Reverse Bevel” to the Left and Right to describe the “Door Handing” or how the hinges and hardware are installed on the door .
